A conference on juvenile diversion and restorative justice was held in Istanbul.
Organized by UNICEF and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey, the event highlighted the Georgian model of diversion as one of the leading examples in the region. Iason Nachkebia, Head of the Analytical Department of the National Agency for Crime Prevention, Non-custodial Sentences and Probation, presented Georgia’s experience in implementing diversion mechanisms.
Participants discussed the development of diversion and restorative justice programs, emphasizing the need for a strong legislative framework, individualized assessments, rehabilitation services, mediation institutions, and effective inter-agency coordination.
